Venus (Rome) andAphrodite (Greece)
are similar faces of the Goddess of the Love, beauty and romance. Venus was orignially an Earth goddess of vegetation and vineyards, while Aphrodite was a Sea goddess, from this we can see that the Greek version of love is as free, ephemeral and emotional as the "sea foam" which gives Aphrodite her name, while the Romans found love as more stabilizing (Earth) and as a foundation to grow upon, which brings fertility, bounty and beauty. Over time and close association their myths merged. In astrology the planet Venus rules that which attracts us and the power of our desire, what we value, our force of magnetism as well as wealth, art and the power of beauty in our lives.
